Good News Targeting Theft

I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

Excellent results achieved this week on London Bridge & West Bermondsey Ward by the Business Improvement District (BID) Officer-
One of the most prolific shoplifting offenders in Southwark was arrested for two theft offences in Sainsbury’s Tower Bridge SE1, Failing to Attend a Drugs Appointment and Breach of a Community Protection Notice. He was found guilty in Croydon Magistrates Court for three offences and will be sentenced on 02/September/2025. Officers are applying for a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) as part of the Southwark Retail Crime Strategy to target prolific offenders and implement long term solutions.
A second result followed from a bag theft that took place on 31/January/2025 at The Horseshoe Inn Pub, SE1. The victim was having a drink in the pub. The value of the bag and its contents was £1,790.00. Following a thorough and determined investigation over the course of six months the suspect was sentenced in Bromley Magistrates Court and was given a sentence of 36 weeks. He was also ordered to repay £187.00 to the victim.

Shoplifting is a crime that can have a substantial negative impact on local businesses across London. If you notice anything suspicious or witness anyone shoplifting, please report it as soon as possible. These reports are invaluable in letting us build a picture of when and where shop lifters operate, meaning we can be in the right place at the right time to arrest those responsible.
